Founded in 1989, American Apparel is a vertically integrated clothing company that formerly ranked as one of the largest apparel manufacturers and marketers in North America. While it is most known for its retail stores and provocative advertising campaigns, most people don't know that it began as a company manufacturing blank t-shirts and apparel for screenprinters across North America. As their retail store outlets opened across the world, wholesale sales of high quality, sweat shop free blanks to print shops remained an important part of the company's business model. American Apparel was based out of Los Angeles from the early 1990's onward, and has acknowledged the city's influence on the its style and memorable branding.
After a rocky six years, the company filed for bankruptcy protection in 2015 and shut down their retail stores. It relaunched under new leadership in mid 2017 with a new focus of solely online sales of their classic basics and blanks to both screen printers and consumers.
American Apparel continues to disrupt the industry with its constant presence in pop culture and high quality, ethically sourced and sweat shop free apparel. Their products make a great choice for the base of any clothing order.
