The Canadian Made Clothing Alternative

In these recent uncertain times, many of our customers have told us that they are searching for a truly "Made in Canada" alternative for their custom clothing that doesn’t rely on big foreign owned clothing brands. While many companies only offer cresting on clothing sourced from other countries, at Stay Golden Custom we're really proud to offer a collection of clothing items from domestic brands that are manufactured from scratch right here in Canada.

Demand for "Made in Canada" apparel is on the rise, driven by recent challenges with proposed tariffs and a growing interest in supporting local producers. At Stay Golden Custom, we take pride in offering domestic manufacturer alternatives by featuring a range of Canadian brands that cut and sew high-quality garments within Canada.

Beyond the patriotic appeal, choosing Canadian-made clothing for your next order means high quality blanks that will make your business or organization's brand shine.  Here’s a closer look at why it all matters and which Canadian Made brands we’re especially excited about.

1. Supporting Local Businesses & Canadian Manufacturing

When you opt for a made-in-Canada garment for your next order, you’re not just buying a piece of clothing, you’re investing in Canada. Domestic production keeps jobs and revenue within the country, fostering growth in local industries and skilled trades. This direct support helps ensure Canadian companies can continue to innovate, hire local workers, and maintain high standards for labor and quality.

King Athletics  🍁

Calgary-based King Athletics has been proudly producing sportswear domestically in Alberta for more than a decade. King Athletics specializes in hoodie sweatshirts and also makes T-shirts, shorts, sweatpants and other clothing.

“Manufacturing in Canada is our niche,” says Phong Vu, King Athletics’ owner and president. “Many of our distributors started carrying us at first because we are made in Canada — almost everyone else is manufacturing overseas. When you hear about clothing manufacturers you automatically think that the product is being made in China.” The only non-Canadian element at King Athletics is the cotton yarn that comes from North Carolina because cotton doesn’t grow in Canadian climates.

The yarn is shipped to Montreal where it’s transformed into a knit fabric that is coloured with high-quality, environmentally friendly dyes at a plant in Ontario before arriving either at King Athletics’ in-house facility in Calgary or a sub-contractor’s factory in Toronto for cutting and sewing.

Everything is done with sustainability in mind, as well as supporting local workers and partnering businesses. At the Calgary plant, Vu has 35 employees who make about 1,500 garments every day.

Some of King Athletics garments that we especially love:

  • King Fashion Raglan Hoodie Sweatshirt (15 oz., 95/5 cotton/polyester): With ribbed cuffs, compacted material to reduce shrinkage, and a classic split-pouch pocket design, this sweatshirt offers classic comfort. Contrasting sleeve and hood colours.

  • King Fashion Pocketed Sweatpants (15 oz., 95/5 cotton/polyester): Featuring elastic leg cuffs and a drawcord waist, these sweatpants strike the perfect balance between style and functionality.

2. Ethical & Sustainable Production Standards

The importance of Canadian manufacturing in the clothing industry extends beyond just quality—it strengthens the local economy and promotes fair wages for workers. Canadian manufacturers must adhere to stringent labor regulations, fair wages, and environmental guidelines whereas the lines can blur in these areas for some off shore brands and manufacturers. This means you can feel good about the origins of your apparel, knowing that ethical practices and sustainability are woven into every seam.

Jerico🍁

Jerico has built its reputation as a pioneer in Canadian manufacturing, blending ethical practices with high-quality craftsmanship. Based in Ontario, Jerico produces all its garments locally, ensuring that its operations adhere to the highest standards of sustainability and fair labor. Their commitment to ethical manufacturing means they prioritize eco-friendly materials, responsible production methods, and transparent supply chains. By supporting local communities and reducing the carbon footprint associated with offshore production, Jerico demonstrates how Canadian-made clothing can be both environmentally conscious and economically impactful.

Our top Jerico picks include:

  • Jerico Mens Relaxed Fit Bamboo Polo: This moisture-wicking bamboo stretch jersey is perfect for active lifestyles. With a relaxed fit, 4-button placket, and side slits, it balances style and sustainability. It is available in both a mens and womens version.

3. Higher Quality & Durability

Canadian-made apparel stands out for its exceptional quality and durability, largely due to the attention to detail that these manufacturers prioritize throughout production. Unlike other mass-produced offshore brands that often sacrifices quality for speed or cost, Canadian manufacturers focus on using premium materials that are carefully sourced and selected for their longevity. This commitment to high-quality fabrics and expert craftsmanship ensures that each garment is built to endure, offering superior wearability and resilience.

Whether it’s the durability of the stitching, the longevity of the fabric, or the careful construction of every piece, Canadian-made clothing is designed to withstand the rigors of daily life and remain a staple in your wardrobe for years. Investing in locally-made apparel often means you’re getting a product that not only looks great but also performs exceptionally well over time.

Beaniez🍁

Beaniez is all about delivering reliable, high-quality headwear designed and knit here in Canada. Each piece is crafted with attention to detail, using premium yarns and sustainable practices that reflect the brand’s commitment to quality. By keeping production within Canada, Beaniez ensures that each product meets the highest standards of craftsmanship

Two of our favorites are:

  • Accent Acrylic Toque: 100% acrylic with an adjustable cuff and multiple color options. Perfect for custom embroidery or a sewn woven label. Designed In Canada.

  • Mountain Acrylic Toque: Similar in warmth and build quality, this toque features a slightly larger fit. It’s an excellent choice for those cold Canadian winters.

Choosing Canadian-made apparel isn’t just about sporting a maple leaf; it’s about supporting local businesses, embracing ethical standards, and investing in premium, long-lasting clothing. Whether you’re outfitting a sports team, corporate staff, or a work crew on the job site, with recent uncertainty around tariffs, a lot of Canadians would like to make the switch to supporting domestic garment manufacturing. At Stay Golden Custom, we’re proud to offer a selection of King Athletics, Jerico, and Beaniez products that uphold Canada’s reputation for excellence.
